About Us

Small Investments Equine

How did we become to be known as Small Investments Equine? It all started with an equestrian mom who decided to have ponies come to her daughter's 5th birthday party.  The love of horses was instant, the drive to learn everything that was horse related was strong. For years that child absorbed every piece of information she could, was a working student at many area barns to learn from some of the best, because she wanted to be just like them. The parents of this little girl were often questioned by other parents "Isn't it expensive? Those early morning horse shows must be tough?" It was this girl's dad who would proudly reply " Horses have taught my daughter good work ethic, compassion, teamwork and a drive to succeed, the time and money are just a small investment into my daughter's future. This is the story of how we came to be and the drive to want to share our passion, knowledge, experience and drive to succeed with your child.

Meet Emma

Emma Scheier is a dedicated equestrian trainer with over 15 years of experience in the saddle. Throughout her career, she has had the privilege of working alongside some of the top equestrians in the industry, including former Olympian Nona Garson, Samantha St. Jacques, & Lauren Chumley. Emma specializes in the Hunter/Jumper discipline, yet she firmly believes that a solid foundation in horsemanship and dressage is essential for all types of riding.

Emma's passion for horses led her to establish Small Investments Equine, initially a pony leasing business aimed at helping families find the perfect first pony, a "Small Investment" into their kid's equestrian dreams. Over time, this venture has blossomed into a comprehensive lesson program catering to riders of all levels, from first-time participants to competitive children aspiring to shine in the show ring. Emma's commitment to her students and their equine partners fosters a supportive and encouraging environment, ensuring that each rider develops their skills and confidence while enjoying their journey in the equestrian world.

Holly discovered her love for riding at a young age, sparked by her first pony, Rocket. Since starting her equestrian journey at just 8 years old, she has dedicated herself to developing young, green ponies, guiding them through various levels of competition. Over the past year, Holly has made remarkable strides with our beloved pony, Small Talk, who made a splash in the Children’s Hunter Pony division during their first year of rated showing. Together, they achieved an impressive 5th overall in the USEF National Standings for Small/Medium ponies.

As our working student extraordinaire, Holly plays a vital role in our community. She assists fellow students with tacking up for lessons and serves as our head camp counselor, ensuring that all participants have a rewarding experience. Holly’s dedication extends beyond her responsibilities; she makes it a point to care for every horse and pony, ensuring they receive all their needs—including plenty of extra cookies! Her passion, skill, and nurturing spirit make her an invaluable member of our team.

While he runs his own successful chimney sweeping company, he also immerses himself in all things horse-related at the barn. There is no task big or small George can’t handle from feeding horses, cleaning stalls, deliveries of feed, hay & shavings, driving the trailer, repairs, building jumps- you name it he does it!
George's unwavering commitment and hard work have been instrumental in our success. We often tease that he’s our #1 employee, but it’s a title he truly deserves. Small Investments wouldn’t be where it is today without George’s time, dedication, and love for his children and horses.

Born and raised on a farm in Hunterdon County, Christina’s journey with horses began at the tender age of 8, riding her beloved pony, Pinky. This early passion for equestrian life laid the foundation for a lifelong love of horses.

In her twenties, Christina met George, the love of her life. As they settled down to buy a house and start a family, she hung up her stirrups, but the call of the barn never truly faded. To her delight, her daughters inherited that same passion for horses, reigniting Christina’s connection to the equestrian world.

Now serving as our barn manager, Christina is the backbone of our operation. She meticulously oversees every aspect of horse care, from coordinating nutrition and veterinary services to managing farrier schedules and horse show entries. Her organizational skills and attention to detail ensure that our program runs like a well-oiled machine, allowing both horses and riders to thrive.
